The third edition of the “Mar Motto” exhibition, whose objective is to alert to the «fragility of the oceans and the beings that inhabit them», opens this Thursday, June 8th, at 18 pm, at Fábrica da Cerveja, in Faro.

Organized by Sciaena – Association of Marine Sciences and Cooperation -, this exhibition has a «simple» concept: using art to alert the public to all that humanity has done to ruin these ecosystems and how everyone can contribute to conserve them». explains that association.

After the first two editions in 2014 in Lisbon and 2016 in Almada, this time the exhibition will take place in Faro, at the Associação Recreativa e Cultural de Músicos, in the former Fábrica da Cerveja, since «this historic space, in the old town, offers a privileged place to connect art and oceans in a city and region so linked to the sea», he adds.

The artists who will participate are mainly from the Algarve, from various artistic universes, along with some of the national artists who participated in previous editions of “Mar Motto”, who were challenged to: «make a piece that expresses the deepest feelings for Sea, the urgency to protect it and to inspire each one of us to make a difference», says Sciaena.

So, on the opening day there will be music in charge of the DJ Sir Aiva and painting a live mural. Other names to participate are Curtiço, Nuno Viegas, Lucia de Brito Franco, Nuno Direitinho, Skran, Mar, Plasticus Maritimus, Basap, Maciel Santos, Sen, Pedro Águas, Hélder de Sousa, Regis Vincent, Bikuaiet and Tassilo Martin.

The pieces will be for sale, and part of the value will be donated to future editions of “Mar Motto” and other actions to raise awareness and protect the oceans, to be organized by Sciaena.

During the nearly two months that the exhibition will be open – until 29 July – Sciaena will promote various animation and awareness-raising activities, such as concerts, debates, live painting or films.

«Mar Motto allows us to reach a huge audience and make each one feel like a guardian of the Oceans, informed and aware of all the threats that hang over these ecosystems but, more importantly, aware of what each one is. can do to protect them. We want all Portuguese people to think, breathe and protect the Sea», says Gonçalo Carvalho, president of Sciaena.

In addition to the Musicians Association, the Municipal Chamber of Faro, the Municipal Museum of Faro:  Marine and Environmental Research Center (CIMA) and the Center for Marine Sciences (CCMAR) of the University of Algarve, International Master of Science in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation (EMBC+), the Algarve University Radio (RUA FM), the Policromia Cultural Association, the Algarve Free Oil Platform, the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of the Algarve, the Europe Direct Algarve and the Portuguese Environment Agency.
