The fire, which is believed to have originated in a dry thunderstorm, has already caused more than 60 deaths and more than 50 injuries. The fire broke out in the early afternoon of Saturday in a forest area in Escalos Fundeiros, in Pedrógão Grande (district of Leiria), and spread to the neighboring municipalities of Castanheira de Pera and Figueiró dos Vinhos, forcing the evacuation of villages and leaving them isolated .
