The competition that will make it possible to complete and eventually strengthen the staff of the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South (CMR South) has already been launched. The Algarve Regional Health Administration, in partnership with Centro Hospitalar do Algarve, opened a pool to recruit health professionals from 10 different areas, namely doctors, nurses, therapists and operational assistants, among others.

As announced by ARS do Algarve this Tuesday, June 13, the conclusion of individual employment contracts for an uncertain term is at stake, in a 40-hour work regime at CMR Sul, in São Brás de Alportel. «The working hours are organized according to the professional career and the remuneration according to the applicable salary table», according to the entity responsible for managing the NHS in the Algarve. Candidates will be selected after curricular evaluation and interview.

Within the scope of the competition, vacancies were opened for physiatrist, internist, nurse, physiotherapist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, dietitian-nutritionist, psychologist, operational assistant and social worker.

According to the Sul Informação with ARS do Algarve, this is the first step towards completing the staff of the Rehabilitation Centre, which has been losing weight since this health unit was once again under public management. The partnership with the CHA, a Public Business Entity (EPE), aims to speed up the process, as this entity does not have the same restrictions on hiring a Public Institute, as is the Regional Health Administration.

For now, there is no defined number of employees to be hired, but they will be, at least, the 24 nurses that Health Minister Adalberto Campos Fernandes promised to "immediately place" in the CMR Sul, in a meeting he held with mayors of São Brás de Alportel and workers from this center last week.

The president of the Algarve ARS Paulo Morgado revealed to the Sul Informação that nurses “are the most pressing need”, but that does not mean that they are the only lack of CMR Sul. That is why this recruitment pool touches so many professional areas.

“We are going to start selecting among the candidates, who will then be hired and undergo specific training, taking into account that this is a certified service”, he revealed. This specialization is more relevant when we talk about nurses, who “as soon as they finish their training, they will be integrated into the services”. Paulo Morgado does not commit to dates, but guarantees that everything will happen "as quickly as possible" and before the end of the summer.

This turns out to be a transitional solution, although, as assured by the member of Government, allow the center "to resume hospitalization, with all the beds". From the moment it is formalized the creation of the University Hospital Center of the Algarve (CHUA), CMR Sul will integrate this new structure and become an EPE, which will give it administrative capacity to directly hire the health professionals it needs. The recruitment pool now opened is the basis for the hiring that will be made immediately and for an "possible reinforcement of services" at a later stage.

At the same time that it works to fill the shortage of nurses in this hospital unit, ARS do Algarve is taking care to hire other health professionals, in order to «progressively reopen inpatient beds». For this, doctors will be needed. The Algarve, it is known, has had problems in attracting clinicians, but, according to Paulo Morgado, "a physiatrist has already shown us his interest in coming here."

With the recruitment grant that was created, and depending on the applications that are presented, needs of another order of the Rehabilitation Center may be met. Later, and after an evaluation, a new tender procedure may be opened.

Those interested in participating have three working days (from yesterday, June 13th) to send their applications, by mail, to the Center for Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation of the South, ARS Algarve IP, Sítio das Almargens, 8150-022 São Brás de Alportel. In addition to indicating the position they are proposing, candidates must send their Curriculum Vitae (updated Europass), a copy of their professional certificate (when applicable) and a copy of their academic/educational qualifications.

More information about the recruitment grant and the application procedure can be obtained from the ARS Algarve Human Resources Management Unit, by calling 289 889 900.
