Smart Region Summit are «two days of new things» towards «Algarve Carbono Zero»

Companies showing their applications and technological solutions to save energy and water, the robotics of the University of Algarve, but also an electric mobility exhibition are some of the proposals of the Next.Mov Smart Region Summit Algarve, to be held this Thursday and Friday, 18th and 19th of May, at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, in Portimão.

According to AMAL – Algarve Intermunicipal Community, work is being done to «accelerate digital governance, to provide a better service to people, intending to dematerialize much of what is done today with enormous economic and environmental costs», reduce paper and simplify «processes , harmonizing procedures between all municipalities'. Not least because the goal is… an «Algarve Carbono Zero».

With regard to the electric mobility exhibition, we will learn about the «bet of car brands and encourage public services and people to take this option». So it will also be possible to «make a Test Drive of a 100% electric car and be able to know all its advantages».

AMAL's objective is also "to very quickly strengthen the charging stations, in a very broad partnership, at national and regional level". something that will be materialized with the signing of a protocol in this Smart Region Summit.

In this seminar there will also be conferences. The inauguration of the initiative will be, at 10 am, Isilda Gomes, mayor of Portimão, Francisco Serra, president of the Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of the Algarve, Miguel Freitas, first secretary of AMAL, Jorge Botelho, president of AMAL, and Desidério Silva, president of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA).

At the end of this first panel, Ana Mendes Godinho, Secretary of State for Tourism, and José Mendes, Assistant Secretary of State and Environment, will speak.

Also on the first day there will be a session on electric mobility, at 11:30 am, and another on public transport, at 16:30 pm, which will be closed by Pedro Marques, Minister of Planning and Infrastructure.

On the 19th, conferences are scheduled such as the one at 11:30 am on “New Mobility”, which will open with the testimonies of Rui André, mayor of Monchique.

In this initiative, the «Next.Mov – Smart Region Summit» spaces can also be visited, where AMAL and CCDRA will show «what is underway in the Algarve region in terms of intelligent systems and the varied service offers in the field of digital transformation at national level", a "Start-up" space, coordinated by ANJE - National Association of Young Entrepreneurs, an area dedicated to "Cycling&Walking", promoted by the Algarve Tourism Region and a "University" sector, where it will be promoted the investigation of intelligent systems and the technological teaching of Portuguese universities.
