These days, «the seamstresses of São Brás de Alportel, and there are many, have no hands to measure», guarantees the mayor of São Brás de Alportel Vítor Guerreiro. After all, there are only a few days left for the historical recreation of São Braz d'Alportel 1914, which will transport this Algarve village a hundred years into the past, and there are those who insist on joining the party and going out on the street dressed in the best way of the early 27th century. , on the 28th and XNUMXth of May.

Two years after the original event, which helped São Brás de Alportel close the celebrations for the centenary of the creation of the county, which was a Republican stronghold in the Algarve, the São Brasense Chamber recovered the initiative «São Braz d'Alportel 1914 – A journey in time”, now with a more pronounced cultural and touristic animation aspect, but without losing its base, which aims to disseminate the history and local heritage.

«After the success of the recreation in 2015, as people liked it so much and some even invested in costumes of the time, we decided that the initiative would be to repeat, albeit every two years. I believe this second edition will have an even greater success, since, two years ago, there were many people who told me they were sorry not to participate dressed at the time. We have the involvement of the entire community and associative fabric», he revealed to the Sul Informação Victor Warrior.

The population and associations of the municipality, but not only, will be central elements of the festival. More than just dressing up, São Brasenses are invited to enjoy this party and the entertainment program it proposes, which includes «plays, lots of music and circus arts», the latter guaranteed by a group linked to Circo Cardinalli , which will tour the streets of São Brás during the two days of the event.

«In music we will have from traditional Portuguese music to fado. We will have the presence of Celina da Piedade, the Moçoilas group and jazz groups. We also have a vintage carousel. And, of course, gastronomy, with several taverns, and handicrafts. We will also have, as in 2015, several open houses, to recreate paintings of the time», he said.

Animation will also be guaranteed by groups coming from Faro, as is the case of Sociedade Recreativa Bordeirense, which will «recreate a demonstration of quarries, of former quarry workers, against taxes». Also invited was the Folklore Group of Faro.

This year, the municipality has the support of the 365 Algarve program, which finances the initiative in 50 percent. "This support is quite good, as we can bet and invest a little more, as we have this contribution", illustrated the mayor of São Brás de Alportel

Remember the 2015 edition here:

Those who waited and see in 2015 now have another opportunity to actively participate in the initiative. And everything indicates that there are many people who, the second time, will really enjoy it.

The City Council of São Brás de Alportel gave its contribution, through the publication of a pamphlet in which he recalls how São Brasenses dressed in 1914. Information based on years of work at the Museu do Traje, located in this Algarve village, to which many have resorted to, to ensure that the costumes they will wear are faithful to history. “People have been asking us for the models of the clothes. Some resorted to the Museum, to ask for opinions and resolve this or that doubt», explained the mayor of São Brás.

Also because there are many people who still have clothes from that time at home. “There were those who came to me and told me they were sorry for not having dressed up, as they even had a dress at home that belonged to their grandmother or an ancestor. Now, everyone is excited and trying to find clothes to be able to participate», he said.

«I invite everyone to come, if they can dress at the time. I think we will have a big party here. The historic center will be all beautified and I think it will be worth it», challenged Vitor Guerreiro.

For now, there are no outfits available for rent, for those who decide to join the party at the last minute, but the São Brasense mayor assured that this issue is already being considered, together with the Museu do Traje, a member of the committee. organizer of this event, and which should be included in future editions of “São Braz d'Alportel 1914 – A journey through time”, which will take place every two years.
