Paulo Alves, PS candidate for the Monchique Chamber, wants to «find new business opportunities and new audiences» for the mountain council. In statements made at the conference “New challenges for Territorial Cohesion”, which took place in Alferce, last Saturday, Paulo Alves revealed some of his ideas for the municipality.

The candidate, according to the council of the PS, "affirmed the uniqueness of Monchique, emphasizing the potential of the territory, from those already explored to those that, in his understanding, should also deserve attention."

Paulo Alves also highlighted the need for "new products, identifying unexploited potential, recovering traditions and activities that were fading away, recovering products that distinguished Monchique and that were disappearing".

The promotion of mountain agriculture and diversification of supply were also aspects addressed by Paulo Alves at this conference, promoted by the deputies to the Assembly of the Republic of the PS, elected by the Algarve.

According to the PS of Monchique, Paulo Alves “regretted that even those products that differentiate Monchique – such as running water, thermal water, mineral water, nepheline syenite, handicrafts and the old professions – are so little supported”.

The candidate also considered “nature tourism and health, well-being, cultural and sports tourism as areas to explore and develop in order to assert the territory, promote development and create jobs”.

Paulo Alves stated that "it is necessary to attract new audiences, attract and receive those who have ideas, will and capital to invest, new and more tourists, new and more inhabitants", with the aim of "benefiting and enhancing the territory and its people" .

The independent PS candidate considers that "it is necessary to know how to listen to people, welcome ideas, especially from the younger ones, find integration solutions" and "encourage the decentralization of services, identify potential and build an agenda for Monchique."

The concept of “Agenda for Monchique”, defended by Paulo Alves, is based on “a bet based on synergies, partnerships, in the internal context and with the environment, cooperation with neighboring councils in a perspective of valuing particularities and potentials, but also on an inherent advantage competitive advantage that complementarity provides and leverages».

Ending his presentation, Paulo Alves, considering that «the greatest potential of Monchique is the people and what they are willing to do for the territory in their different functions and attributions», stated that he was proud of the interior that Monchique is, of being a monchiqueiro and to consider “interiority as a differentiating potential”, which needs to be “supported by the central and local power”, in order to be “more cohesive, more competitive, more sustainable, more connected and more collaborative”.
