The Chamber of Faro wants Docapesca to take “urgently” measures to solve the problems affecting the Doca de Faro, such as the fall of mosaics, the bad smell and the infiltrations, which make it a «degrading spectacle».

After new rebates on the dock walls took place on April 26, Rogério Bacalhau sent a letter to Teresa Coelho, chairman of the Board of Directors of Docapesca, in which he states that the situation «shows even more the state of degradation to that the Doca de Recreio has already arrived».

According to the mayor, “the bed is silted up and, at low tide, the smell is nauseating; the waterproofing tiles are all falling, causing the dangerous infiltration of water into the subsoil and the consequent instability, already responsible for several reductions in the surrounding streets».

Rogério Bacalhau says that the municipality of Faro does not understand «why has not already started an intervention plan to safeguard this noble area of the city of Faro and that currently represents a degrading spectacle for all Farenses, a terrible visiting card for the thousands of tourists who visit us and that directly affects about 500 families using the dock, for professional or recreational reasons».

The official letter adds that "the situation is aggravated by the repeated lack of responses" from Docapesca and that "it conveys the idea that the Government cannot or simply does not want to make any arrangement for the Doca de Faro».

The municipality emphasizes that «given the proximity of another summer period and the consequent increase in visitors to our city» there is «the need to clean and maintain the Doca de Recreio, as well as the entire riverside area».

In October of last year, Docapesca, contacted by Sul Informação, said to be "aware of the situation", denounced by Rogério Bacalhau in an interview with our newspaper, and guaranteed to have "A maintenance action is planned on the walls where the stone mosaics have fallen, to be carried out in 2017".

However, for the Chamber, this “lack of answers” belies this intention.

The PSD deputy Cristóvão Norte, elected by the Algarve, has also already taken a position on this issue and guarantees that he will send a letter to José Apolinário, Secretary of State for Fisheries, “who has already been confronted with the issue, but what is unknown have done».
