Journalists from "renowned media" from the United States of America and Russia will be in the Algarve this week, to learn about "the diversity of the offer and the region's added value as a tourist destination", according to the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA ).

With these actions, the association responsible for the promotion of tourism in the Algarve at an international level wants to "strategically increase the reputation of the destination and its tourism potential in these two markets considered emerging in terms of the tourism sector in the region" .

According to ATA, the demand of the North American market "has been increasing significantly". "In 2016, in the Algarve, the North American market registered a growth of 23,4% in the total number of guests compared to the previous year, reaching the 11th position in the list of main countries sending tourists to the region", revealed the association .

The Russian market, on the other hand, «after having been the target of a strong internal crisis, is starting to show signs of recovery, and in 2016 the Algarve had more than 40 thousand overnight stays from tourists from this country».

These press visits are “one of the strategic tools that ATA regularly uses”. During their stay, journalists are given “the opportunity to experience and be surprised by the diversity of the region's offer”.

«The objective of this type of initiatives is to contribute to the recognition and positioning of the Algarve as a desirable destination for various segments, with the capacity to respond to the motivations and interests of various tourist profiles», concluded the ATA.

The actions that will take place this week are carried out in partnership with TAP (in the case of the US press visit) and with Ural Airlines (in the case of the Russian press).
