Alcoutim City Council announced today the approval, by the PO SEUR (Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources Operational Programme), of its candidacy, which means the construction of 21 kilometers of new water supply pipelines, in an investment close to 1 million euros.

According to that municipality in the Northeast of Algarve, the application includes the construction of water supply infrastructure to 13 locations in the municipality: Alcaria Alta, Azinhal, Castelhanos, Diogo Dias, Fonte Zambujo, Fonte Zambujo de Cima, Laborato, Martim Longo, Pão Duro, Peach, Heels, Tremelgo de Baixo and Tremelgo de Cima.

This involves the execution of several water mains, connecting the upstream system (Águas do Algarve) and the distribution networks of the localities.

«In addition to extending the service to populations not yet supplied in the area of ​​influence of the Algarve Multi-municipal Water Supply System», the investment allows «altering the sources of water, in order to avoid the overexploitation of groundwater. , significantly improve the quality of the supply water and integrate several systems in a single subsystem, with a common source of water (Odeleite – Beliche reservoirs)».

The application, with a global value of around 992 thousand euros, will be developed in three different contracts: the first concerns the construction of the water supply pipeline to Pessegueiro and its inspection (637.513,30 euros), the second refers to to the pipeline to reinforce the water supply network in Martim Longo (63.344,50 euros) and the third to the construction of connection pipelines between the system and the high and low-end systems in the municipality of Alcoutim (291.773,52 euros).

At the meeting of the City Council held on 26 April, the opening of a Public Tender for the contract for the execution of water supply pipelines to Pessegueiro was approved.

The water supply pipeline to Pessegueiro includes the supply to Diogo Dias, Azinhal and Tremelgo, including the construction of 7,5 linear kilometers of PVC pipelines.

"This is a huge investment, articulated with the policies for the creation of infrastructure in the area of ​​water supply, mainly the improvement of its quality, followed by the municipality in recent years, creating about 21 kilometers of new pipelines", stresses the Chamber.

"In addition to improving the living conditions of the resident population, the implementation of these projects also represents an indisputable enhancement of the municipality of Alcoutim, working as an attractive factor for new residents and as a lever for the local economy, particularly in the tourism sector", concludes the alcouteneja autarchy.
