Tavira will host a district march for the prevention of abuse in children and youth, on April 30, with the departure scheduled for 10:00 am, at Praça da República.

This action is part of the community and family awareness campaign for the rights of children and young people, “Lao Azul”, which has been running during the month of April.

«The Blue Ribbon (BlueRibbon) campaign emerged in 1989, in Virginia, in the United States of America, when a grandmother, Bonnie W. Finney, tied a blue ribbon to her car's antenna in order to arouse curiosity. The story Bonnie told was tragic and revealed the mistreatment of her grandchildren. The blue symbolizes the color of the injuries and should serve as a reminder for the defense of the most unprotected», according to the Chamber of Tavira.

An action that began as a grandmother's tribute to her grandchildren, but which quickly expanded. Today, "many countries use blue ribbons during the month of April to commemorate those who have died as a result of child abuse and as a way to support families and strengthen communities in the efforts needed to prevent child abuse and neglect."

This march is included in the regional calendar of the Algarve 2016/2017. It is organized by the Municipality of Tavira, with the collaboration of Oficina do Barrocal and partnership with the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth.
