The documentary exhibition “Celebrating April – So that the memory of 48 years of struggle for Freedom is not erased” will be inaugurated on April 21, at 19 pm, in the exhibition gallery of the Algarve Regional Directorate of the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ), in Faro.

During the inauguration, the researcher Manuel Pereira will deliver the lecture “O Contributo dos Algarvios no 25 de Abril”.

«"Celebrating April – So that the memory of 48 years of struggle for Freedom is not erased" is a documentary exhibition, which was born from the desire to pay homage to the democratic actors who are in the action of the narrated facts», says the IPDJ.

The exhibition consists of a summary of the historical events that took place between 1910 with the establishment of the Republic, including the military coup on the 28th of May, which imposed the dictatorship, taking us to the 25th of April 1974.

“Celebrating Abril” culminated in 1977, with the inauguration of the first mayors elected after the 25th of April, “one of the most important achievements of April”, says the IPDJ.

The exhibition is an initiative of CIVIS – Association for the Deepening of Citizenship, in partnership with the IPDJ, and will be open until May 12, and can be visited from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 18:00 pm.
