The international conference “The Cultural Heritage of the Mediterranean Diet” will take place on the 9th and 10th of May at the Grand Auditorium of the University of Algarve, on the Campus de Gambelas, Faro.
This conference takes place in the year of the Portuguese presidency of the seven States and Communities that represent the Mediterranean Diet and aims to analyze the strategies and experiences of research, preservation and transmission of universal values of the Mediterranean Diet to current and future generations.
The meeting focuses on the ongoing work experiences in the seven States and Representative Communities, especially in the context of good practices included in the Safeguard Plan. It is thus positioned, according to the organization, «with a perspective open to the various fields of knowledge, allowing a comprehensive view of the Mediterranean diet as a cultural model and lifestyle as a food standard of excellence and sustainable diet».
The conference is open to the active participation of university professors and researchers, educators and professors from different levels of education, experts in the fields of culture and food heritage, agriculture and the environment, health and nutrition, planning for the sustainability of territories and communities and other areas of knowledge, as well as project managers and promoters, entrepreneurs, students and even citizens interested in these themes.
It is a joint organization of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forests and Rural Development, the University of Algarve and the Municipality of Tavira.
