Publicizing the work of the Ria Formosa Wildlife Recovery and Investigation Center (RIAS) is one of the objectives of the environmental education activities that the center and the Chamber of Olhão will promote, aimed at the community of this municipality, with a special focus on school public.

Until the end of October, the municipality of Olho and the RIAS will promote initiatives ranging from «the construction of nest boxes for birds to the identification of shorebirds, through the observation of reptiles or chameleons, and “Workshops for Parents and Cubs”, for parents and children', according to the Municipality of Olhão.

The first initiative, a field trip for bird watching at Quinta de Marim, headquarters of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, where the RIAS headquarters are located, will take place tomorrow, March 11th.
Other initiatives followed, most of them thinking of the school public, namely students from the 2nd and 3rd cycles of basic education, but also in the community, namely "field trips and didactic workshops".

As far as the school public is concerned, the actions that will take place during the Ria Formosa Week, which this year runs from 2 to 5 May, stand out. For the students of the 2nd cycle, «an interactive activity was conceived that aims to show the different functions of bird feathers, through mini-experiments». The issue of marine pollution and its impact on birds will also be addressed.

Students from the 3rd Cycle were not forgotten and will be able to attend an interactive lecture, where participants will get to know various animals of the fauna and flora of the region, such as the round-winged eagle, the eagle owl, or the turtle. of striated-shell.

"The commitment to strengthening the awareness of young people and adults to safeguard the environmental heritage is assumed by the municipality, not only as one of its competences but, above all, as a civic duty and a contribution to the common well-being", considered the Mayor of Olhão António Pina.

For the mayor from Olhão, «it is with pleasure that we are betting on this collaboration with RIAS, in the hope that it will have the desired impact on our community».
