The 11th edition of the Reading Week, between 20 and 24 March, will take the writer Elsa Serra and the illustrator Carlota Flieg to the school libraries of the 1st cycle of Basic Education in the municipality of Portimão.

Promoted by the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, in collaboration with school libraries, the Reading Week is marked at national level within the scope of the National Reading Plan «with the aim of celebrating reading and books, this year under the motto “ The Pleasure of Reading”».

According to the Municipality of Portimão, in this edition “the intention is to give voice and space to readers, present and future, in the contagious sharing of the taste and pleasure of reading, in the exploration of sounds and musicality of words and phrases, in the discovery of plurality of meanings, through the dramatization of narrative and poetic universes of all times and contexts, highlighting the pleasure of reading».

Storyteller Elsa Serra and illustrator Carlota Flieg will present “Monstra?” a book “that talks about differences and fears”.

The Reading Week is aimed at children from 6 to 10 years old and “will be distributed in ten sessions dedicated to telling the story, sharing the process of building the book in a relaxed conversation with the authors, about fears and what this implies in our lives», explains the municipality of Portimo.

The presentation of the book "A Monstra?" in school libraries, according to Elsa Serra, “an exercise in intimacy and magic”

The 11th Reading Week will pass, on March 20th, at EB1 do Pontal and on March 21st it will visit EB1 Coca Maravilhas and EB 1 Vendas. On the 22nd, she will go to EB 1 Major David Neto and, on the 23rd, the writer and illustrator will be at three schools: EB1 de Alvor, EB 1 Montes de Alvor and EB1 Mexilhoeira Grande. On March 24, the last day of the Reading Week, the story of the “Monstra?” will be told at EB 1 Chão das Donas and at EB1 Pedra Mourinha.

The Câmara de Portimão adds that “this initiative promotes the study and dissemination of the work of a writer selected at the beginning of each school year, involving students, teachers, school library and the educational community. The study of the author's work is integrated into the activities of the school/library for that school year, through individual or collective reading, dramatizations, various competitions, book fairs. The project culminates in a meeting with the writer, who spends a day in each school library».

This is an initiative of the Manuel Teixeira Gomes Municipal Library, in collaboration with the municipality's School Libraries, which «emphasizes the importance of how a story is revealing secrets, seducing the listener, inviting him to fall in love with the book, with the history and reading», concludes the municipality.
