The direction of health services in the Barlavento Algarvio, in the opinion of Carlos Martins, chairman of the Board of Directors of the Centro Hospitalar Lisboa Norte and of the physician Ester Coelho, or the discussion on the direction of fisheries, also in Barlavento, by the voice of José Apolinário , Secretary of State for Fisheries, and Jorge Vairinhos, from the direction of Barlapescas.

These are two of the "controversy sessions" that take place tomorrow, March 11, at 12:15 and 15:15, respectively, within the scope of Jornadas do Arade, at the Portimão Museum.

Because one of the bets of Teia d'Impulsos, which organizes the Jornadas do Arade, involves training, the program also includes two courses, already today, the 10th: an introduction to the Transitional Movement of the Arade, from 18:00 pm to 21:00 pm, at Espaço Raiz (Pedra Mourinha), with the objective of «contributing to finding solutions for a resilient and sustainable future», and another one to introduce associative driving, from 17 pm to 00 pm, in the same space.

On the 11th, a conference dedicated to a concept resulting from the last edition of the conferences – Aradismo – starts work at the Museu de Portimão. Nuno Silva will explain the challenges to the implementation of a concerted solution between the municipalities of Portimão, Lagoa, Silves and Monchique for the development and affirmation of the Arade Basin in the regional and national context.

Smart cities will be the motto of the second conference of the day, at 11:30 am: Francisco Serra, president of the Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR) of the Algarve, will share his vision of a new concept of urbanism, with his eyes on the future and on new technologies.

The afternoon program will start at 14 pm and will question the University's intervention in the territory and its interaction with the local population, focusing on the example of higher institutes and university centers established in the municipalities of the Arade Basin.

To this end, the Instituto Superior Manuel Teixeira Gomes (ISMAT) will be given as examples, with Rui Loureiro, director of this educational institution, speaking, or CRIA – Division of Entrepreneurship and Technology Transfer of the University of Algarve, with the intervention of Hugo Clays.

At 16:30 pm, it will be Rui Pedro Alves, CEO from RUPEAL, to reveal the secrets of how to be a successful entrepreneur in the area of technology.

The last round table of the day, scheduled for 16:30 pm, will present some successful projects and initiatives that aim to present a sustainable tourism offer and an alternative to the traditional “sun and beach” product, including nature, business, and sport and gastronomy as potential sources of attraction for tourists throughout the year.

The Saturday night program starts at 20 pm, with the presentation of the 00 edition of Rota do Petisco, in the decabeço room of the Museu de Portimão. The revelation of Route 2017 news will be accompanied by a cocktail offered by Docapesca and with the support of the Central de Cervejas and the Algarve Wine Commission.

After the stomach is comforted, the Journeys will continue with the ideas of the youngest for their region, since secondary school students will share their points of view, questions and suggestions, before representatives of the four municipalities of the Arade Basin. This will be, according to the organization, «a moment of active and participative citizenship».

Sunday morning work will start at 9:00 am, with a free communications session. This will be followed, at 10:00 am, with a round table on the rebirth of Agriculture in the Arade Basin, with, for example, the testimony of Sónia Brito, from SB Berry, a company dedicated to the production of red fruits.

José Amarelinho, Mayor of Aljezur, at 10:30 am, will speak, in turn, on the controversy over the exploration of oil and natural gas in the Algarve.

At 12:15 pm, the 2017 edition of these conferences will come to an end with a conference that aims to inspire ideas for inter-municipal cooperation, one of the main objectives of this initiative: Maria Joaquina Matos, chairman of the board of the “Terras do Infante” Association and the Câmara de Lagos , will share the experience of this organization in repairing synergies between the municipalities of Lagos, Vila do Bispo and Aljezur.

Admission to the II Jornadas do Arade is free, but subject to registration, which can be done here. Jornadas do Arade is organized by Associação Teia D'Impulsos, as part of its CAIC project – Active Citizenship and Civic Intervention.
