The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) had warned: today there was a possibility of snowfall above 800 to 1000 meters in the southern region, that is, snow could fall in the Serra de Monchique. And that's what happened this afternoon, on top of Fóia, at 17 pm, as the video shows, although it didn't leave a white robe.

With the low temperatures expected during this night and early morning, as well as the maintenance of the precipitation forecast, it is possible that the snow will return to the top of the Serra de Monchique, the highest point in the Algarve, but it won't give much to views.

Throughout the day, as the IPMA data indicate, the highest temperature in Fóia was 3,7°C, but it never dropped below 0°C either. During the night, this value may drop a little.

But most likely there is frost in the mountains, so the roads in Monchique, especially those connecting the town to Fóia, may have ice and become dangerous.

Therefore, on his facebook page, the mayor of Monchique advises “prudence to the boldest and due care to the most enthusiastic”.

«With snow, frost or simply too cold, it is always desirable to climb the mountain!!!», stresses the mayor Rui André. But you have to be very, very careful.
