A rupture in the water supply pipeline to the parish of São Bartolomeu de Messines, which occurred yesterday, 23 February, at the Monte de São José site, is already being repaired, announced today the City Council of Silves.

Meanwhile, the Messines and Silves Volunteer Firefighters are "recharging the reservoir at Quinta dos Orégãos" to "accelerate the resumption of water supply", while the firefighters in the affected locality are "distributing water to the population", adds the autarchy.

This repair is being coordinated by the Division of Urban Services and Environment and by the Councilor of the Department, who are on site.

Since October last year, the contract for the “Water supply system to Messines” has been underway, which includes the construction of a new pipeline in ductile iron, between Monte de S. José, Quinta dos Orégãos and Monte Boi, as well as the construction of two new high-capacity reservoirs and a pumping station at Quinta dos Orégãos.

In addition, the renovation of the internal organs of the existing reservoirs and Pumping Station and the installation of a remote management system are planned, “which will solve the problem for decades to come”, according to the municipality.

The works, according to the Municipality of Silves, are proceeding "at a good pace".
