The 19th edition of “Portugal de les-a-lés”, which is the biggest tourist motorcycle marathon in Europe, will end, during the afternoon of June 17, in Faro. In total, this initiative will cover 1100 kilometers.

The marathon, without competitive purposes, will thus have three stages and an opening tour, starting in Vila Pouca de Aguiar. the choice of Faro towards the end of the race, it lives up to «the motorcycling spirit that runs in the veins of the city and of the people of Faro», in the words of Paulo Santos, vice-president of the local Chamber, who attended the presentation of the event, last February 5th.

As for the route, it will cross 12 districts and dozens of municipalities, favoring the lesser known roads, never stepping on any Main Route (IP) or Complementary Route (IC).

«The objective is to cross Portugal from end to end, contemplating landscapes and places of enormous splendor. All participants will follow the tour road book which will make known some of the most interesting details of Portugal», explains the Chamber of Faro.

With regard to the way the competition will unfold, the technical checks will open the event, during the morning and afternoon of the 14th, a formalism that precedes the prologue “tourist aperitif” by Vila Pouca de Aguiar and a presentation dinner.

The three stages will always start early on Thursday and Friday mornings.

The last editions of “Portugal de Lés-a-Lés” have always surpassed one thousand participants, having in 2016 counted 1650 motorcyclists on 1500 motorcycles, with an increase in the number of foreign participants. Faro it has already received 3 arrivals, in 2002, 2005 and 2007 and provided a departure from this tourist marathon, in 2010.
