Three men suspected of having carried out several robberies to houses and shops in the municipality of Loulé, most of them in the parish of Almancil, were arrested by the GNR, following an investigation carried out by the Public Prosecutor's Office of the Department of Investigation and Criminal Action of Faro – Loulé Section.

The men were detained on Wednesday, February 1st, by elements of the GNR's Loulé Criminal Investigation Nucleus.

“There are suspicions that the defendants were engaged in assaulting homes and commercial establishments in the Loulé area, especially in Almancil, many of them belonging to foreigners. In most occasions, one or more of the detainees will have scaled the walls or gates, broken down doors or windows and entered houses, after which they removed the money and all the valuables they found", according to the Public Ministry, in a statement .

One of the alleged assailants is charged with "24 crimes of aggravated theft, as well as one of a prohibited weapon." Each of the other defendants, in co-authorship with him, were charged with six crimes of aggravated theft.

The men have already been present to the investigating judge in Loulé, with two of them being held in preventive detention while awaiting trial. The third member of the group is prohibited from contacting his accomplices and obliged to make periodic presentations to the authorities.

The inquiry will now continue, with the investigation being handed over to the GNR in Loulé.
