A concert by the Pedro Jóia Trio will mark the beginning of Castro Marim's twinning with the Spanish city of Algeciras and pay homage to the late Spanish guitarist Paco de Lucía, on March 17. The concert reinforces the link between Castro Marim, birthplace of the mother of Paco de Lucía, and Algeciras, the Andalusian town where the guitarist was born and lived.

The concert “Segredos de Lucía – Friday Nights de Lucía” will be staged at the Municipal Library of Castro Marim and is intended to “cement the umbilical connection of this immortal genius to the Algarve”, already evoked last summer with the Festival de Lucía, sponsored by the fado singer Mariza, and which sold out completely, with audiences coming from both sides of the border.

«Paraphrasing the best known, recognized and sold guitar record worldwide, in which Paco de Lucía participates in an outstanding way» – “Friday Night in San Francisco” – the Castro Marim City Council advances with the presentation of “Segredos de Lucía” ” on certain Friday evenings, “adapting the same show to the local specificity, connecting with local artists, crossing dance, voices and flamencos, with Pedro Jóia's guitars and João Frade's accordion.

The show, which is financed by the 365 Algarve program, will also pass through Loulé and Lagos, «contributing to a greater enrichment and diversification of the cultural and tourist offer in the region during the so-called low season», stresses the Chamber of Castro Marim.

Paco de Lucía, recognized as one of the best composers and guitarists in the world, learned his first chords from his father, Antonio Sánchez, also a flamenco guitarist. Her connection to her maternal roots in the Algarve is perpetuated in her artistic name and in the album entitled “Castro Marín” (1981).

Later this year, the Castro Marim City Council will proceed with the construction of a memorial to Paco de Lucia in the square in the village of Monte Francisco where his mother lived, with the aim of strengthening the bond with the guitarist and creating a place for pilgrimages and pilgrimage for the admirers of the absolute master of flamenco.

Ticket sales for “Segredos de Lucía – Friday Nights de Lucía”, for 5 euros, will start soon, with the possibility of pre-booking at the Municipal Support Office, through contacts: 00351 281510778 | [email protected].
