Tavira is promoting the Mediterranean Diet at Fitur – International Tourism Fair, which is taking place in Madrid until Sunday. The Portuguese community representing the Mediterranean Diet as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity went to the neighboring country to show this heritage in what is considered one of the main events of the tourist industry worldwide.
The Câmara de Tavira accepted the invitation of the Algarve Tourism Region, which is organizing a space dedicated to the region, to show «the Mediterranean lifestyle, namely, through the presentation of handicrafts and local products, the tasting of regional sweets , as well as liqueurs and brandies», according to the Tavirense autarchy.
And the showcase is respectful, since last year nearly 250 thousand people attended FITUR, including professional (124,6 thousand) and non-professional (107,2 thousand) participants. In 2016, the fair had 9605 exhibitors from 164 countries.
According to Câmara de Tavira, the organizers seek to «provide a business space with the best tools for professionals to successfully face the current challenges of the sector».
