The 12th edition of the concert cycle «Promenade», by the Orquestra Clássica do Sul, returns to Faro and Lagoa, this year under the theme “The Great Classics”.

The first show will take place on Sunday, January 22, at 12:00 pm, at Teatro das Figuras, and at 16:30 pm, at the Auditório Municipal de Lagoa, with the theme “A Menina do Mar”, by Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen.

In total, four works of children's literature will be presented, as this cycle is “specially aimed at the youngest”. In the concert "A Menina do Mar" the beach is the setting for the story of friendship between a boy and this girl, "united by the discovery and sharing of the differences in the world in which each one lives", explains the Orquestra Clássica do Sul.

The program also includes works by Handel and Sterndale-Bennett, under the direction of the principal conductor of the Orquestra Clássica do Sul Rui Pinheiro.

On February 12, at 12:00 pm, at Teatro das Figuras, and at 16:30 pm at the Lagoa Auditorium, it will be the turn of «A História do Pequeno Tailor», a classic by the Brothers Grimm set to music by Harsányi, to present the story of the «brave Tailor who becomes makes an unlikely hero when facing the terrible giant who frightened his region».

This and other works by Bucalossi, Curzon and Avery are performed by the Southern Classical Orchestra under the direction of their associate conductor John Avery.

Also by the Brothers Grimm and also directed by John Avery, on March 12, at 12:00 pm, at Teatro das Figuras, and at 16:30 pm, at the Lagoa Auditorium, the children's fable «The Bremen Musicians» will portray the story of a donkey , a dog, a cat and a rooster who, mistreated by their owners, decide to flee to the city of Bremen, where they will experience freedom.

"Rogers' music adds to this history and works by Ross, Coates and Williams complete the repertoire of these sessions", explains the Orquestra Clássica do Sul.

On the 14th of May, «Pedro eo Lobo» will close this cycle, at the same time and in the same locations as the previous sessions. «Composed by Sergei Prokofiev thinking of the younger ones, with the purpose of illustrating the different sounds of orchestral instruments» this show «tells the story of friendship and courage of a boy who manages to capture a terrible wolf». The “additional repertoire” will consist of works by Respighi, Haydn and Rossini.

In addition to the party atmosphere and the usual surprises, the cycle provides a hobby that aims to encourage interest in music, giving the assiduous public the opportunity to win, in Faro, a «Cremona violin model SV-75», in partnership with the local Live Music store, while in Lagoa the prize will be a «Yamada YD20 V violin», with the support of the Solidó – Instruments Musicais store.

This cycle is sponsored by Caixa Geral de Depósitos.
