The Municipality of Albufeira will lower the price of the water supply, wastewater and solid waste in the municipality, mainly for domestic users. The new rates come into effect as early as February.

According to the municipality, this new tariff, "will essentially benefit domestic users, in the fixed tariffs for the supply of water and solid waste for meters up to 25 m3, which are the vast majority of consumers in the municipality."

The Chamber also explains that, "with regard to the variable tariff for solid waste, the report shows a standardization of prices at the level of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th bracket, with obvious benefits for consumers, since the amount to be paid it will currently be at the level practiced in 2016 for the 2nd step: €0,64».

This value turns out to be lower than that applied previously for the 3rd and 4th bracket: €0,77 and €1,02, respectively.

In practical terms, explains the municipality, «this means that a family that consumes 8 m3 per month paid €25,48 with the previous tariff and, from now on, will pay only €21,88 (VAT already included)».

In the category of non-domestic consumers, the Chamber's main concern “was to alleviate small traders who, with the new tariff, will benefit from a reduction in the fixed water supply tariff (meters up to 20 m3)”. This value increased from €9,9 to €7,5. The fixed tariff for urban waste also dropped from €9,68 to €9,00».

The mayor of Albufeira Municipality states that this is yet another measure that comes as a result of the enormous effort made by the municipality over the last few years with a view to achieving balance in public accounts.

"Our priority now is to promote the reduction of the tax burden on families and companies, essential measures for the economic recovery of the municipality", says the mayor.

Carlos Silva e Sousa also recalls that «last October the Municipal Council of Albufeira decided to reduce the IMI rate to 0,30% (the minimum admissible by law), to lower the value of the spill for companies with a turnover above 150 euros and continue to exempt those who invoice below this amount, as well as eliminate the Municipal Fee for Rights of Way. The local authority also decided to exempt all commercial and restaurant and beverage establishments from the payment of public road occupancy taxes during the months of November and December 2016 and January and February 2017».

The president of the Chamber believes that "the reduction and exemption of fees and tariffs will promote the development of companies, attract more private investment and improve the quality of life of families".
