Portuguese athlete Joana Schenker, current three-time champion of the European Bodyboard Circuit and fourth in the APB 2016 World Circuit, will be at the boot fair 2017 in Düsseldorf (Germany), on the 28th and 29th of January, where he will surf «The Wave», the biggest wave indoor artificial, with 9 meters in front.

This presence is part of the Portuguese initiative promoted by the Sea of Portugal and has the support of the Municipality of Vila do Bispo. The participation of Joana Schenker aims to add value to the demonstrations made at the «The Wave», located at surfers village (Pavilion 2), contributing to the dissemination of this year's big news in the boot and a greater dynamic and visibility of Portugal in this sector, at an international level.

For two days, fans of bodyboarding and surfing will be able to meet and watch the athlete's demonstrations, at the surfers village, pavilion 2.

About this adventure, Joana Schenker says she is very excited. «It's a completely new experience, as I've never done bodyboard in an artificial wave. I know it's a dynamic and a very different way than surfing in the sea, especially with a surfboard bodyboard, since we usually need very deep and vertical waves to do the advanced maneuvers».

Joana said that “it will be a challenge”. «I'm very curious to see what you can do at The Wave with a surfboard bodyboard».

Born in Sagres, municipality of Vila do Bispo, Joana Schenker carries in her luggage the mission of disseminating the bodyboard and the Portuguese coast, which stands out for «an enormous potential with regard to the bodyboard, with year-round swell and waves for all levels from beginner to professional».

Portugal has always been very strong in bodyboard, with several European and even world champions. «In recent years, there has been a large investment by some parts of the country in order to promote the potential of its waves, so that we currently have several stages of the European circuit and the world circuit in Portuguese territory. Which indicates that we are growing and increasingly established as an important and strong sport in the country», explains Joana Schenker.

Joana Schenker's main competitive results:
>>4th place on the APB 2016 World Tour;
>> Bronze Medal at the ISA World Bodyboard Championship 2015;
>>Tri-European Champion of the European Circuit ETB 2014, 2015 and 2016;
>>Tri-Champion National Pro Tour 2014, 2015 and 2016;
>>1st place in the National Circuit Pro Tour 2013;
>>2nd place in the Sintra Pro 2016 World Championship;
>>European Vice-Champion 2009 and 2010;
>>National Vice-Champion Open 2004, 2009 and 2010;
>>European Junior Champion 2004;
>>Tri National Champion of Hopes 2003, 2004 and 2005

About the beaches where she trains daily, Joana points out that «the beaches on the south coast of the municipality of Vila do Bispo are the best for the practice of bodyboard in Portugal and even in Europe, thanks to the cut of the coastline that receives a constant dose of swell and thus they form triangular and hollow waves, excellent for wave sports».

“I love Sagres, because it's a place that has everything, waves, nature, good weather and, above all, an enveloping mystique that doesn't exist anywhere else,” he adds.

The Portuguese athlete of German origin also underlines the role of the bodyboard in the region of Sagres, «with very good athletes and proven results, which has the support of the municipality that recognizes the importance of this sport for the municipality».

A boat, one of the largest international fairs for recreational boating and water sports, is taking place in Düsseldorf, Germany, until 29 January.
