The Chamber of Faro is not happy with the "mere cosmetic" solution found by the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) to ensure that the emergency medical vehicle is parked at the Hospital of Faro run all night in December.

The president of the Faro local authority, Rogério Bacalhau, sent an official letter to the minister of Health, where he argues that the measures taken "are a mere reinforcement of the hours of the crew and this is not, in any way, the desirable and definitive solution for this weakness." for more when Christmas approaches.

In this way, he asked the Government, "as a matter of urgency, to take the necessary measures to prevent the ambulance with greater activity in the region and which covers the Faro and contiguous areas, operate in conditions of overload of its crew and other collaborators».

The stance taken by the aedile from Farense comes a week after the Secretary of State for Health Manuel Delgado announced the reopening of the Regional Directorate of Faro of INEM, which will mean an increase in investment, human resources and the renewal of the equipment of this entity, at a regional level.

The reversal of the status of the INEM's Algarvian delegation, which had ceased to be Regional Directorate in 2012, by decision of the previous Government, and had its importance reduced, namely with the loss of a fully functional Guidance Center for Urgent Patients (CODU) , should be completed "in January", according to the member of the Government.

In the meantime, the executive led by social democrat Rogério Bacalhau is not at ease. The operational limitations of the INEM ambulance of the Hospital de Faro they were denounced some time ago “by professionals linked to these issues” and “they even reached the Assembly of the Republic”, which led the national leadership of INEM to take measures that “supposedly would put an end to the sad reality reported.

For Rogério Bacalhau, the solution found is "a cosmetic measure" that "not only does not solve the problem, but even aggravates it, as it reduces the quality and efficiency of the operation, forcing professionals to work in extremely tired conditions. and physical and emotional frailty».

«That is, allow me, not only to put at risk the human resources under the responsibility of INEM, but it is, above all, a disregard for the population of the Municipality of Faro, which finds itself deprived of quality care in the only INEM vehicle in the city. We have thus come to express all our disappointment in relation to the measures announced by INEM which, we reiterate, are more than mere cosmetics», concluded the mayor of Faro.
