This evening, the Monchique City Council honors all the mayors who, over 40 years of Local Power, were elected and exercised their mandates in this municipality, with the inauguration of the Presidents Gallery and a gala.
The evocation and tribute takes place this Monday, December 12th, the day on which the 40th anniversary of the first Municipal Elections is commemorated, and will have two distinct moments: the first at 16 pm, with the inauguration of the Presidents Gallery (Assembly and Chamber Municipal) at the Salão Nobre da Câmara Municipal, and the second at 00 pm, with the Gala of Mayors of the Municipality of Monchique, in Parque da Mina.
In this ceremony, a diploma will be given to each of the Mayors and Former Mayors. The Municipality will also award them the “Afinete Dourado de Monchique”.
The Monchiquense Chamber thus provides «public recognition to all the Presidents of the Board, Presidents of the Municipal Assembly and Mayors, Councilors, members of the Municipal and Parish Assemblies, some of whom have died posthumously, who gave a little of themselves to serve people, motto of the national commemorations of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities».
This is an initiative that seeks to "honor and enhance the dedication and work developed in favor of the Municipality of Monchique, within the scope of the Local Government whose first elections were held on December 12, 1976", stresses the municipality in a press release .
