The Centro Hospital do Algarve (CHA) has had no Orthopedics emergency since yesterday, a situation that will continue until tomorrow, Monday. According to RTP "the specialty service is being provided until Monday, alternatively, by a private hospital group in the region and the most serious cases will be forwarded to the Hospital de Santa Maria, in Lisbon."

That is, the urgency of Faro it is not refusing patients who have an emergency of this nature, although they may be referred to the private health unit, in this case the Hospital Particular do Algarve.

Also according to RTP, the Board of Directors of the CHA, "says that the shortage is a result of the lack of orthopedists and the insufficient supply of service providers at this time of year."

The lack of clinicians in this specialty is nothing new and has been denounced by various entities, including political parties such as the PCP and the PSD, through their deputies elected by the circle of Algarve.

Questioned by Sul Informação, the administration of the CHA assures that “it has been strengthening the existing human resources in this specialty, while a process of restructuring of orthopedics services is currently underway, namely through the appointment of new leaders of these services and the elaboration of a plan of development that has already allowed a greater differentiation of the specialty with the creation of a Vertebromedullary Surgery Unit, in collaboration with the Neurosurgery service».

«The services have been the target of a consolidated process of reorganization and restructuring, and a program to recover waiting lists is also underway. In this sense, the College of the Specialty of Orthopedics of the Medical Association has already asked for a new assessment audit, aimed at recovering the training suitability of the service, "according to the Algarve hospital centre.
