The Municipal Assembly of Faro gave the green light to the Municipal Budget for 2017, which will have a global value of 39.295,018 euros.

The Municipal Budget and Major Plan Options Faro for 2017 had already passed smoothly at the Chamber Meeting on the 14th of November – contrary to what has been the rule throughout the current term – and they have also already received the approval of the council's deliberative body, where the parties that support the president of the Chamber Rogério Bacalhau are in a minority.

One of the reasons that can justify the ease in approving a document that, since 2013, has always generated a lot of discussion both in executive meetings (the PSD/CDS also do not have a majority in the Chamber), as in the Municipal Assembly, is the fact of the investment provided for in this budget sis practically the same as foreseen in the 2016 Amending Budget, which was approved by all agencies.

About 2 months ago, the Government did not authorize the Chamber of Faro to move forward with a set of works, budgeted at around 3,5 million euros, which included the improvement of the municipality's road network and the upgrading of schools and other public buildings, among others.

Thus, one of the largest portions of this Budget is destined to the «improvement of the public space, where the 3456 million euros that resulted from the government's veto of the investment plan for 2016 were housed and that, thus, derive for 2017 with the designation of «Program Faro Requalifies 2», explains the Faro local authority.

For example, refurbishment of playgrounds and sports facilities, rehabilitation of several streets and squares, and the acquisition of vehicles for Firefighters Sapadores and schools are planned.

Another planned measure is the "relocation of families in a precarious situation", within the scope of social action, for which 750 thousand euros were earmarked, which will also serve to reinforce other components of school social support.

Another major guiding principle of the 2017 Budget was the "need to carry out the investments considered to be structuring for Faro, namely those that have a contribution from European Union funds approved or in candidacy, which pontificates the Action Plan for Urban Regeneration (PARU)», adds the Chamber of Faro.

PARU includes several actions for the rehabilitation and qualification of the public space and the building stock with patrimonial value, involving a total investment that exceeds 20 million euros, of which nearly 2 million correspond to public investment.

The municipality also wants to continue "the fruitful work with spatial planning", which was worth the Faro the distinction of «City of Excellence», continuing «the commitment to the implementation of the PDM, the Mobility and Transport Plan and urbanization plans», explains the executive led by Rogério Bacalhau.

With this budget, the Chamber of Faro says he hopes to be able "finally to get out of the situation of excessive indebtedness", being "predictable" the reach "of the much desired autonomy", concludes the Chamber of Faro.

A first sign was given this year, through the reduction of the tax burden on families, through the drop in the IMI to 0,45%.
