The amounts financed by the project provide for a loan of up to 90% of the total investment of the rehabilitation work and include the financing of projects, works in the common parts of the building, namely in terms of structural elements, roofs and facades, as well as restoration work on buildings Classified.

Through this partnership, the municipality «takes another important step to promote the urban regeneration of the historic center of Vila Real de Santo António and the city's riverfront (areas already classified as ARU), supporting the owners in the licensing processes of the buildings to requalify,” says the VRSA Chamber.

Loans may also be granted for the rehabilitation of buildings that are more than 30 years old and located outside the ARU, as long as they lack full conservation works and consist only of housing fractions.

For Luís Gomes, Mayor of VRSA, «this program represents a strategic opportunity to continue the rehabilitation of the Historic Center of VRSA, which is today one of the most active in the country in commercial terms and on which an effort has been made. exemplary work in terms of protection, recovery and dynamisation'.

The “Rehabilitate for Lease – Affordable Housing” program has an initial allocation of 50 million euros, with financial support from the European Investment Bank and the Council of Europe Development Bank.

«The Historic Center of Vila Real de Santo António is currently an excellent example of XNUMXth century architecture and urbanism and has a Detailed Safeguarding Plan for the Pombalino de VRSA Nucleus, which led to the constitution of the first Rehabilitation Area (ARU) of the country and the implementation of the first Jessica program south of the Tagus», explains Vila Real de Santo António City Council.
