taxesThe PSD of Portimão considers the announcement made yesterday by the local Chamber to be "a swindle" that, as proposed by its president, the IMI rate on urban properties for the next year, in the municipality, will drop from 0,50 to 0,45% .

Portimonian Social Democrats, invoking the IMI Code, say the maximum rate currently allowed is 0,45%. Therefore, they argue, “the President could not, for not having legal support, present such a proposal, especially lowering the IMI in Portimão. If he did, it was illegally».

The PSD therefore accuses mayor Isilda Gomes of pursuing "the old idea of deceiving Portimonenses in the "old fashion of the Socialist Party in Portimão", with false advertisements or committing illegalities.

However, to what the Sul Informação found out, consulting the IMI Code cited by the Social Democrats, in accordance with paragraph 18 of article 112º, «municipalities covered by a local economy support program (…) or municipal adjustment program (….), may determine that the maximum rate of municipal tax (…) is 0,50%, based on its indispensability for meet the objectives defined in the respective plans or programmes'.

Having the Chamber of Portimão adhered to the Municipal Support Fund, could have kept the IMI rate at 0,50%, but the decision, by "political option" of the executive headed by socialist Isilda Gomes, it was lowered to 0,45%.

In any case, the truth is that, as the PSD points out in its statement, Portimão continues to have the IMI at the maximum rate of 0,45%, «not being able, unlike other municipalities in the region, to set the minimum IMI rate».
