In addition to Portimão, the Municipality of Albufeira will also participate in the «Família do Lado» initiative, which wants to sit at the same table families, Albufeires or immigrants, who do not know, for a typical lunch of the culture of the host family, on 27 November , at 13:00 pm.
The objective of this initiative is to «promote a better integration of immigrants in the community, strengthening social relations and promoting cultural diversity», refers the City Council of Albufeira.
This is a transnational project that was born in the Czech Republic, in 2004, and which on this day will take place simultaneously in Portugal, Spain and the Czech Republic.
In Portugal, the initiative is promoted by the High Commission for Migration, in partnership with public and private entities.

In 2016, the edition of «Família ao Lado» takes place in more than 30 municipalities, from Viana do Castelo to Albufeira, passing through the Azores and Madeira, with the involvement of around 100 entities. Portugal participated in the initiative for the first time in 2012, and has since been one of the countries with the highest number of participants.
