The Municipality of Albufeira is listening to the population of the municipality, in several sessions, within the scope of the revision of the Municipal Master Plan. The first Public Auscultation Forum took place on the 4th of November in the Main Hall of the City Hall building.
According to the Municipality of Albufeira, this «was the first, of a set of several sessions that aim to find out what the municipality's population thinks about the development strategy to be drawn up for Albufeira in the coming years».
The local authority recalls that the Albufeira PDM «already has more than 20 years (in force since 1995), which naturally implies a maladjustment in relation to the current reality».
The work is being carried out by a team outside the Albufeira Council, which classifies this PDM as "a 2nd generation plan and not a mere revision".
It is a new process based on a legacy that results from a pre-existing territory and situation, explains Ricardo Tomé, director of RTGEO, the company that is conducting the process. The main differences in relation to the previous document indicate “greater transparency, rigor at the level of cartography and the execution component”.
The mayor of Albufeira, Carlos Silva e Sousa, highlighted that these sessions are essential because they are part of a strategy of proximity and transparency in which citizens are called to participate in the council's development policies.
«We are drawing up the general lines that will serve as a basis for the planning and development of the territory in the coming years. This process cannot be done in closed offices, far from reality. We have to listen to people, collect their suggestions so that the future PDM reflects the main concerns and aspirations of the population and so that the strategy and course defined make Albufeira a modern, competitive municipality with a better quality of life for the present and future generations», said the mayor, justifying the need and obligation of all citizens to participate in the process.
The Municipality of Albufeira explains that «the current revision of the PDM, unlike the 1995 version which is based solely on issues of planning, conditions and regulation, is based on a strong strategic component, defining projects and actions and a clear concern for what with regard to implementation (programming/operationalization)'.
The next listening sessions are already scheduled. On November 12th, the citizens of Ferreiras and Paderne will be heard. The actions take place simultaneously, at 15 pm, at the Clube de Ferreiras Pavilion and at the Paderne Parish Council building.
The parish of Albufeira and Olhos de Água will have two sessions on the 19th of November, both at 15 pm, at the headquarters of the Parish Council of Albufeira and at the former premises of the Parish Council of Olhos de Água. The last session is scheduled for the 00th of November, at 26 pm, in the Cultural and Recreational Hall of Guia Parish Council.
