Portimão makes “Render o Peixe” with 3 projects approved in 365 Algarve

Portimão Municipal Theater TIMEVisual arts, gastronomy, dance and classical music are the areas of the three projects approved under the “365 Algarve” program and which will take place in Portimão, from the end of this month of October until May 2017.

O “365 Algarve” is a joint initiative of the Ministries of Economy (with the Secretary of State for Tourism) and of Culture, financed by Turismo de Portugal and implemented by the Algarve Tourism Region, local cultural agents and Algarve municipalities.

The nominations from Portimão were presented by the Municipal Museum of Portimão and by the Dancenema and ArtedoSul associations.

The first to take off will be the project «Making Fish to Render in Portimão», at the Portimão Museum, which combines gastronomy and contemporary art and opens on October 27th, with a session composed by the artist Kwame Sousa, author of the exhibition “Um Olhar About Peixe Seco”, and by chef André Magalhães, responsible for the aromas and flavors of a Litan Cataplana with Algae.

Between the 1st and the 6th of November, the Contemporary Dance Festival, organized by Associação Dancenema, with the support of the City Council, which once again brings to the stage of TEMPO – Teatro Municipal de Portimão, the well-known and awarded dance company Quorum Ballet.

The city celebrates artistic expression in its different aspects, hosting, on several stages, dancers, creators and companies that integrate seven shows and several workshops that intertwine with a photography exhibition “Portimão, Dança e Arte”, by Cristina Claudius and Dancenema. The opening is scheduled for the 1st, at 16:00 pm, at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes, and will also include a Flavor Fair, on the 4th and 6th, from 15:00 pm to 22:00 pm, at Casa das Artes.

The highlights are the shows by the contemporary dance company Quorum Ballet, which on November 5th, at 21 pm, brings to TEMPO the works “Excentric Concentric” + “Mesa”, and the piece by Maurícia Barreira Neves “This is not a love story. This is A and B”, which takes the stage of the Small Auditorium, on the 30rd, at 3 pm.

Ticket price for “This is not a love story. This is A and B” is 8 euros for the general public and 6 euros for over 65s, people with disabilities and accompanying persons, unemployed, students, entertainment professionals, under 30s and groups of 10 people or more. As for the shows “Excentric Concentric” and “Mesa”, the cost is 10 euros, with a discount of 2 euros for dance students.

Entering the new year of 2017, and because “365 Algarve” intends, precisely, to support cultural activity outside the tourist peak season, the New Year's Concert, by the Air Force band, scheduled for the 7th of January, at 21 pm, it will mark the beginning of the classical music cycle, which for five months will lead to TEMPO several shows.

Later that month, on the 21st, at 16 pm, the ballet “Nutcracker”, by Companhia de Dança do Algarve.

In February, the month is marked, on the 4th, at 16 pm, with the show “Vila Lobos in motion”, by the Academy of Music of Tavira, and on the 00th, at 18 pm, the 21st edition of the Algarve Piano Festival takes place , with a 30 hands concert, by Mário Laginha and Armando Mota, accompanied by the Euro-Atlântica Symphony Orchestra, under the artistic direction of Maestro Osvaldo Ferreira.

In March, the program presents, every Saturday, at 21 pm, concerts with the participation of several renowned pianists, such as Mário Laginha, Pedro Burmester, António Rosado, Armando Mota and Borja Otero.

Marialena Fernandes and Ranko Markovic are the pianist duo invited to take the stage on April 8th, at 21 pm, and to close the cycle of shows, on May 30th and 6th, the Companhia de Ópera do Porto will enter the stage, with Mozart's Opera “Cosi fan Tutti”.
