This conference will explore the cultural, ethical and social issues that influenced the development of science, its use by society in the form of technology since Man can be assumed as such until the present, and the political and social importance of bet on it in the current context.

 

 

“In the last few million years a group of mammals has taken a bipedal position and, through the understanding of the nature that surrounds it and the development of tools, throughout its evolution, it has dominated the world around it”, says Câmara de Loulé.

 

Who is Alexandre Costa?

 

Alexandre Costa is the president of the Executive Council of the European Association for the Teaching of Astronomy (EAAE) and director of the Escola Secundária de Loulé.

In Portugal, he has been involved in several educational projects, national and international, especially in the areas of Physics and Astronomy. He has participated in the technical coordination of the construction of Permanent Exhibitions of Science Centers, as the main responsible for the reconstruction of the Centro Ciência Viva do Algarve, and in the promotion of Science promotion activities, namely temporary exhibitions and the dynamization of portable planetariums throughout the continent and Islands.

Since 1998, he has been a trainer of many EAAE teacher training courses in Europe. He was a UNESCO emissary for the launch of the NASE Courses of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) for the training of teachers in the field of astronomy in emerging countries in South America (Ecuador and Peru) in July 2009. Later he participated in the adaptation and participated. as a trainer at the launch of the same courses in Ghana in January 2013.

He has been part of the organization since the genesis of the Astronomy Olympics for students, having been president of the Organizing Committee between 2006 and 2009. He is the author of textbooks on Physics, Chemistry and Astronomy and is the author of several books and publications, both in the area of ​​education and for the general public.

The Municipality of Beja awarded him the Medal of Municipal Merit (silver degree) in 2000. In 2005, in the International Year of Physics, the Portuguese Society of Physics awarded him the Rómulo de Carvalho Prize, to distinguish the best teacher in in Portuguese non-higher education and, in 2010, he received the National Teacher Award from the Ministry of Education.
