Moments of animation and health promotion, thinking about the most experienced citizens of the municipality, but also their families, are part of the program of the Elderly Week from Vila Real de Santo António, which will take place between the 3rd and the 7th of October.

The initiative takes place at Casas do Avô de Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António and includes activities such as clarification sessions, musical entertainment and handicraft exhibitions.

The Elderly Week starts on October 3, at 14:30 pm, at Casa do Avô de Monte Gordo, with the show by the Spanish dance group “Pasión Flamenca”. At the same time, an offer will be delivered to each user.

On the 4th and 6th of October, health screenings (blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose) take place in Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António, respectively, between 9:00 and 13:00.

The event continues on the 7th, at 17:30 pm, with a session on care for the elderly, aimed at caregivers and family members, where, among other topics, issues of dementia in the elderly will be addressed.

The day ends with the delivery of a caregiver's manual to the grandparents' relatives, which will be followed by a moment of conviviality.

The International Day of Older Persons, celebrated on October 1st, was established in 1991 by the United Nations (UN).
