The athletes, 45 and 44 years old and French nationals, were paragliding, having crashed quite violently on the beach. The impact resulted in two open fractures in the legs of one of the victims and, possibly, a cervical injury in the other.

The alert was received through the Lisbon Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center (MRCC Lisbon), and two Navy soldiers, part of the ISN's “Sea Watch” project to assist bathers with an all-terrain vehicle, and two agents, with a vehicle from the local Command of the Maritime Police of Lagos.

At the site of the accident, there were already the Voluntary Firefighters of Vila do Bispo and the lifeguards of Cordoama beach, who provided first aid to the victims.

The soldiers of the “Sea Watch” project, upon arriving at the scene, proceeded to evacuate the victims to an area where the entry of INEM ambulances was possible.

The operations ended at 16:10 pm, and the victims were transported to the hospital in Portimão, with a reserved prognosis.
