A patrol of the Maritime Police and some people carried out the first attack on a fire at a kiosk selling tours of a maritime tourism company, located next to the T pier, in Olhão, during the early hours of this Saturday. The fire was detected around 5:00 am and ended up extinguished by Firefighters in Olhão about an hour later, without causing any casualties.
According to the Maritime Police, one of its patrols, returning from the Culatra, where it had been on duty because of the ball held there, saw the fire and soon got involved in fighting the flames, helped by people who also flocked to the area.
"After the initial control of the fire, the Municipal Firefighters of Olhão were called, who extinguished the fire shortly before 6:00 am", according to the National Maritime Authority.
The fire caused extensive damage to the kiosk that burned and caused damage to some structures that were beside it. The causes of the fire are yet to be determined.
