The BC1-BC2 Portuguese bocce team, made up of Abílio Valente, António Marques, Cristina Gonçalves and Fernando Ferreira, will fight today for the bronze medal in the sport, with Argentina, at the Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Yesterday, the Portuguese team managed to overtake the Brazilian team, in the quarter-finals, by 5-6, then failing to impose itself on Japan, being defeated by 8-5. However, the Portuguese team has access to the game that will give the bronze and which will be played this Monday.

As for pairs BC3 and BC4, they failed to outperform this Sunday's opponents, thus being prevented from moving on to the next stages of the competition. Par BC3 was held in the last game by Greece, 5-2, while Par BC4 lost 8-4, against Slovakia.

There was also little luck with the shot, with the participation of Adelino Rocha in the 25 meter pistol event. In the initial phase of the race, in the Precision section, he didn't go beyond 30th place and a problem with the weapon in the Rapid section prevented him from improving his result in the competition's overall.

As for athletics, it was the day of finals for Lenine Cunha, Carolina Duarte and Graça Fernandes, while Nuno Alves went to the 1500 meters T11 qualifiers. The athlete, who had already competed in the 5000 meters, did not go beyond the 10th place overall, with a time of 4:36.32 minutes, insufficient to reach the final.

Lenine Cunha, who jumped in the final of the T20 long jump, made her best jump of the season at 6.84 meters, which earned her 6th place, 15 cm from the medals.

Carolina Duarte had the same classification, in the final of the 100 meters T13. After the Portuguese beat the national record in the qualifiers, today she again lowered her own time to 12.48 seconds, finishing the race in 6th place.

Closing the day, Graça Fernandes in the final of the long jump T38, opened with 4.04 meters, failing to improve throughout the contest, thus finishing in 11th place overall.

For this Monday, attention is focused on the game of the BC1-BC2 team that will dispute the bronze medal.
