Festival F kicked off for its 3rd edition yesterday, in Faro. The first day brought several initiatives to Vila Adentro: from the concerts by Ana Moura and GNR, to the literary get-togethers, by Ricardo Araújo Pereira and Carlos Vaz Marques, without forgetting handicrafts.

The big headlines of the day – Ana Moura and GNR – had a full house in their respective concerts, on the Muralha Stage, vibrating to the sound of songs like “Effective” or “Danced Fado”.

the GNR kept the promise and took Rita Red Shoes to Faro to sing “Dançar Sós”. Energetic on stage, the band's vocalist Rui Reininho insisted on asserting himself against oil exploration in the Algarve. «There is nothing more beautiful than nature», he said, on stage.

Ana Moura also put into practice what she had promised: made the audience dance the fado.

Before these concerts, the musical, political and literary gatherings also attracted the attention of (many) visitors to the Festival F. Joaquim Guerreiro, director of Teatro das Figuras and coordinator of the Festival, participated, together with João Carvalho, director of Festival Paredes de Coura, and Álvaro Costa, known radio broadcaster, in the musical gathering. “When we started Festival F, people were very skeptical. Today, in the third edition, these are the people who are already asking when the festival will start and want to participate», confessed Joaquim Guerreiro proudly.

The political gathering, which was attended by Rui Ramos, a historian, and journalist Paulo Ferreira, focused on the theme of populism. The two speakers agreed with the idea that "any populist regime gives the population more the idea of facilities than difficulties."

The Square of the Cathedral, for which the F enclosure has expanded this year, it seemed too small to accommodate those who wanted to attend the literary gathering. On stage, Ricardo Araújo Pereira and Carlos Vaz Marques spoke about books, but also about humor. “Literature is useless. Even a mop is more useful», said Ricardo Araújo Pereira, prompting a general laugh. More seriously, he added: "Literature is also about understanding what this is about being alive."

Carlos Vaz Marques recognized the possibility that literature gives to living countless lives. "Many of them are glad that I only lived them in a fictitious way, because they are so tragic," he said.

Away from the stages, through the streets and alleys of Festival F, it was also possible to visit art exhibitions, craft stalls or the famous roulottes de street food.
