The Municipality of Alcoutim celebrates, today, the 9th of September, the Municipality Day, with a «vast program of activities», from the awarding of medals to personalities of the municipality, to the beginning of the “Festa de Alcoutim”.
The ceremonies start at 10:00 am with the raising of flags, followed by a row through the streets of the village.
at 10:30 am, there is a Solemn Session commemorating the Municipality Day at Espaço Guadiana, with the attribution of medals of honor, merit, good services and dedication to some personalities who have distinguished themselves by providing relevant services to the municipality, followed by a moment of entertainment musical by the Orquestra Juvenil de Guitarras do Algarve.
Former mayor of Alcoutim, and now mayor of Castro Marim Francisco Amaral will receive the gold grade municipal medal of honor. Conceição Cunha will be awarded the gold medal of merit. Professor Epifânio Vicente will be distinguished with the silver degree merit medal and Canon Manuel Rodrigues will be distinguished with the silver degree merit medal.
The ceremony also includes the delivery of medals for good service and dedication to the municipality's employees.
At night, the Alcoutim Festival begins, where music will be highlighted, with David Carreira, Átoa and Némanus taking the lead. This last band will perform tonight, tomorrow it will be the turn of the young Átoa to occupy the stage and on Sunday there is a concert by David Carreira. Over the weekend, those who visit this village in the interior of the Algarve will also be able to enjoy sporting activities, traditional games, music, and a fireworks show on the Guadiana river.
Also on Municipality Day, the Secretary of State for Portuguese Communities José Luís Carneiro will be present in Alcoutim, who will participate in the signing of the protocol that will create the Emigrant Support Office in the Municipality, scheduled for 11:45 am, at Espaço Guadiana.
