And concerts with well-known artists, namely Vicente Amigo, Dulce Pontes and «DAMA», will not be missing in the 2016 edition of the Mediterranean Diet Fair, which takes place between the 1st and 4th of September, on the banks of the River Gilão and on the hill of Santa Maria, in Tavira.

The historic center of the city will be filled with the flavours, aromas and colors of this cultural heritage that is still well present in the Algarve and will bring together sounds from various Mediterranean countries.

Tasquinhas serving typical cuisine, a producers' market, concerts, theater and Mediterranean dances, as well as a space for different entities, are the attractions of the event, designed for «all ages and audiences», according to the Câmara de Tavira, which organizes the event together with ten other entities in the Algarve, public and private.

As usual, the event has a musical poster that refers to Mediterranean culture. In 2016, the Portuguese Dulce Pontes (September 1), Canzionere Grecanico Salentino, an Italian group founded in 1975 and «considered the best Italian popular music group Salentina» (September 2), and the virtuoso guitarist, will perform in Praça da República. Flamenco artist Vicente Amigo, «considered the best of his generation, winner of the Grammy for best album of flamenco music, in the Latin music category (on the 3rd), followed by a show with the «DAMA». These concerts always start at 22:30.

Vicente FriendAnother aspect of making the fair's mouth water is the gastronomy, always present in quantity and variety. Mediterranean delicacies, with flavors of the sea and the land, will be highlighted in the «Praça da Convivialidade», which will be installed again in the Palácio da Galeria Park, next to the Castle of Tavira, where taverns with typical cuisine will be concentrated.

«Also the coastal, barrocal and mountain restaurants are associated with the fair and present, during the event, Mediterranean menus», according to the Tavirense autarchy.

Another aspect of the Mediterranean Diet that is evident at this event is that of traditions and know-how. To make the connection to the professions and typical products of the region, artisans from various parts of the Algarve will be present. The younger ones will also have the opportunity to try some old games, in the children's space that will be installed in front of the Palácio da Galeria. Here, a small theater will be set up that will feature music, theater and games, promoted by the companies Circolando, Teatro e Puppets Mandrágora, Bonecos e Campaniça and Funganguinhos.

Returning to music, many other artists were invited, who will perform in different spaces of the fair, namely the Algarve's Flor de Sal, dances with Qualia and Afterauers, Iberian sounds by guitarist Pedro Jóia and the Arabesco Quartet”, José Manuel Neto and the Adiafa .

Music “Sufi and Derviche Dance en el Mediterraneo”, flamenco/Arabic music in the voice of the Mujeres Mediterráneas, the Moroccan sounds brought by the Basidou, the Portuguese project Fandango and klezmer music by the Meleck Mechaya complete the poster.

In the 2016 edition, special attention will be given to the International Year of Pulses. So, in addition to a seminar on the importance of these products in the Mediterranean Diet, spaces and shows will be developed for children and young people, «generations that will guarantee the continuity of the cultural heritage of the Mediterranean Diet that we received from our ancestors».
