Dried pulsesThe importance of legumes in the Mediterranean Diet will be in focus in a seminar that the Regional Directorate of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve (DRAP Algarve) and the Municipality of Tavira will promote on 2 September, at 10:00 am, at Clube de Tavira.

During the session, the relevance of these products in various aspects will be analyzed, namely agricultural and environmental, nutritional and public health, as well as the economic aspects associated with the production of legumes.

The main objective of the seminar is to raise awareness of the nutritional benefits of dried legumes, including products such as beans, chickpeas and lentils.

To this end, speakers were Amélia Delgado, researcher in the field of Mediterranean Diet, Teresa Sancho, from ARS Algarve, Ana Maria Barata, from INIAV/Portuguese Bank of Plant Germplasm and Pedro Correia, from the Faculty of Science and Technology, University of Algarve . Also present will be the Mayor of Tavira Jorge Botelho, the Dean of the University of Algarve António Branco and the Regional Director of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Algarve Fernando Severino.

Participation in the session is free and is aimed at researchers, industrialists, farmers and other investors in the sector, health professionals, as well as anyone interested in a healthy and sustainable diet. interested parties must register in advance by sending an email to [email protected] until 1st September, at 12:00.

The initiative will integrate the program of the Mediterranean Diet Fair, which Tavira hosts between the 1st and 4th of September.
