The alert was received at 18:59, informing that a vessel was sinking near Praia dos Caneiros.

Immediately, the vessel from the Ferragudo ISN Lifeguard Station and another from the local Command of the Maritime Police of Portimão were sent to the site.

Upon arrival, says the Maritime Authority in a press release, “a 7 meter semi-rigid vessel was identified, which, when approaching too close to the beach, was caught by the surf and flooded, with its seven passengers (four women and three men), of French nationality, thrown into the water on a beach with no access by land».

A private watercraft was then requested, which, operated by a lifeguard crew member, helped to remove tourists from the beach. Along with the tourists were the two lifeguards from Praia dos Caneiros, who helped with the rescue.

The tourists were all taken from the beach and transported to the lifeboat, which took them to the Marina de Portimão, where they arrived safe and sound.

The operation was coordinated by the Captain of the Port and Local Commander of the Maritime Police of Portimão.
