waterEarlier this month, the Castro Marim City Council applied for a water supply infrastructure project to 28 villages in the municipality for the PO SEUR (Operational Program for Sustainability and Efficiency in the Use of Resources) program.

Estimated at around 3,9 million euros, the execution of this project will allow «the supply of water, in quantity and quality, to populations of rural parishes not yet served».

The intervention, to be approved, will also allow «the articulation between the rising part and the falling part, configuring the municipal infrastructure in order to allow the effective connection to the Multi-municipal Water Supply Systems of the Algarve».

The proposed project fell within the maximum amount possible under the notice for water supply, and the sanitation component was not eligible.

It is an investment that can be combined with the interventions carried out and provides for the supply of water to Alta Mora, the western border of the municipality of Castro Marim, in other words, an adduction channel with about 54 kilometers of pipelines. This supply will be guaranteed by two works – central subsystem (1st phase) and central subsystem (2nd phase).

"Getting this funding represents serving about 50% of people still without a home water supply," stresses the municipality, in a press release.

«In addition to developing and improving the living conditions of the resident population, the completion of this project also represents an undisputed enhancement of the interior of the municipality of Castro Marim, working as an attractive factor for new residents and as a lever for the local economy, particularly in the sector of tourism», concludes the City Council chaired by Francisco Amaral.
