turtlesTwo common turtles (Caretta caretta), with the names «Magnólia» and «Mar», were returned by the Portuguese Navy to the ocean yesterday morning, July 14, following their rehabilitation at Zoomarine.

This operation took place aboard the rapid inspection boat NRP Argos, which is on commission in the Southern Maritime Zone.

The ship left Portimão's Naval Support Point during the morning, moving about 10 miles south of the Algarve coast, in order to seek “the best conditions for returning the turtles to their natural habitat”.

The 'Magnolia' tortoise was found in the Netherlands, started its rehabilitation at the Rotterdam Zoo and was then transferred to Zoomarine's Porto d'Abrigo for the final rehabilitation phase.

The turtle «Sea» was found in Barra de Faro-Olhão and also carried out its rehabilitation at Zoomarine's Porto d'Abrigo.
