unemploymentThe number of over-indebted families in the Algarve remained the same as in the first half of last year, announced DECO. The reasons for this over-indebtedness are also the same: deteriorating working conditions and unemployment.

Private sector workers are the ones who ask DECO the most for help. According to the association, this is related to the "question of the precariousness of their situation (term contracts, low salaries, people who were previously unemployed)".

In the district of Faro, over 1300 over-indebted families contacted DECO during 2015, which corresponds to 4,6% of the total requests for aid at the national level. A number much higher than the 870 families in 2014.

DECO's Algarve regional delegation has an office solely dedicated to these issues: the Office of Support for Over-indebtedness. This office is aimed at "debtors who manifest good faith", that is, "debt situations resulting from involuntary acts carried out without the intention of harming the creditor's rights", alerts DECO.
