Galp Rapid Electric Supply PointThe installation of rapid charging stations for electric vehicles at service stations in Palmela, Alcácer do Sal and Aljustrel (A2) and Loulé (A22) began today and should be completed «within two weeks», announced the Secretary of State for José Mendes environment this Monday, in Faro.

A bet that will allow the trip to the Algarve, in 100% electric vehicles, to be done quickly and smoothly. But, arriving in the region, ecological visitors may have some difficulties in guaranteeing energy for their vehicles, as the charging points are scarce and are far from being as efficient as those that are now being installed, which allow to have a full battery in just half an hour.

«The charging points that exist are incipient and take 3 hours to charge a car. It's good that they're on the highway, but it's also good that they move on to the next stage, which is placing them in the localities. I'm waiting for two in Tavira», revealed the president of AMAL and mayor from Tavira Jorge Botelho.

Both the member of the Government and the leader of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community spoke on the sidelines of the protocol signing ceremony for the creation of a plan for sustainable urban mobility, which will bring together the 16 municipalities in the region and dozens of related public and private entities to the transport sector.

José Mendes, perhaps for having a more centralized view of the issue, did not hide his enthusiasm with the prospect of seeing «people coming to the Algarve with the guarantee that they have charging stations within the range of autonomy of electric vehicles».

“We have a project to install 50 fast charging stations in various parts of the country, namely in some cities and on some highways in the country. They have already been ordered, the investment has been made and we decided that it was a priority to install the first fast chargers on a motorway on the way to the Algarve. The works on the ground started today», announced the Secretary of State for the Environment.
