old cacelleClassical music returns to sound in Cacela Velha in another cycle «Clássica em Cacela», which will take place between the 4th and 25th of August.

Emblematic places in this town of Vila Real de Santo António, such as the Church and the old cemetery, will host several concerts, including performances with the coloratura soprano Orlanda Velez Isidro (day 4), with the cellist Isabel Vaz (day 7) and with the accordionist Gonçalo Pescada (18th). The shows always start at 21:45 pm.

This edition of the event also includes three events around the 150th anniversary of the birth of the French composer and pianist Erik Satie: a lecture, a film and a commemorative recital by pianist Joana Gama.

The cycle "Clássica em Cacela", which in 2016 has the theme "Ancient Music", aims not only to disseminate classical music and its performers, but also the material and immaterial heritage of Cacela Velha, namely the Church of Nossa Senhora da Assunção, the old cemetery, the sections of the wall that delimited the village in the medieval and modern periods and the residential buildings with characteristics of the vernacular architecture of the Algarve.

Tickets for the shows in the old cemetery cost 6 euros and can be purchased on site, starting at 21 pm, or booked through the mobile phone 00 967 043. The concerts at the Church, on the other hand, are free to enter, with a donation at the exit.

The cycle «Clássica em Cacela» is organized by the Municipality of Vila Real de Santo António and has the collaboration of Associação Música XXI. The artistic direction is in charge of the Algarve flutist Teresa Matias.
