Bispo do Algarve appointed new parish priests and vicars for several municipalities in the Algarve

Parishes in the municipalities of Albufeira, Tavira, Faro, Loulé, Vila do Bispo, Castro Marim, São Brás de Alportel, Vila Real de Santo António and Portimão will have new parish priests and vicars. The priests were appointed by Algarve Bishop D. Manuel Quintas this month and will take office at ceremonies taking place at the end of August and in September.

Father Flávio Martins, until now parish priest of Santa Maria and São Tiago de Tavira, Conceição de Tavira and chaplain of the chaplaincy of Santa Luzia de Tavira, was appointed parish priest of Albufeira, parish given since October 1968 to the care of Canon José Rosa Simão, who this year turns 80 and who will retire. The inauguration ceremony will take place on September 18th (Sunday), at 11:00 am, in Albufeira.

Father Miguel Neto, until now parish priest of Santa Bárbara de Nexe and Estoi, will go to the parishes of Santa Maria and São Tiago de Tavira, Conceição de Tavira and the chaplaincy of Santa Luzia de Tavira, replacing Father Flávio Martins.

For the same communities, Father Fernando Rafael Rocha, recently ordained, was also appointed as parish vicar. They will take office on the 10th of September (Saturday), at 17 pm, at the Igreja de S. Tiago.

To the Parishes of Santa Bárbara de Nexe and Estoi, in Faro, will go to Father Jesús Ejocha, who has been parish priest of Raposeira, Sagres and Vila do Bispo since August 2014. The priest will work with deacon Luís Galante, who has been working in Estoi since September 2011 and in Santa Bárbara de Nexe since February de 2012. They will take office on September 11 (Sunday), at 10:00 am, in Santa Bárbara de Nexe.

Father José Chula, newly ordained, was appointed parish vicar of the See of Faro, Prefect of the São José Seminary and responsible for the pre-seminar. He will take office on the 28th of August (Sunday), at 12:00 pm, in the Cathedral of Faro.

For the parishes of Raposeira, Sagres and Vila do Bispo, D. Manuel Quintas appointed Father Nuno Coelho, who will accumulate with those of Aljezur, Bordeira and Odeceixe, of which he has also been prior since September 2014. Father Nuno Coelho will take office on September 11 (Sunday), at 18 pm, in Vila do Bispo.

For the parishes of São Clemente and São Sebastião de Loulé, the diocesan bishop appointed as pastor in solidum (in solidarity) Father Nelson Rodrigues, who was parish vicar of the parish of Sé de Faro since August 2015, Mayor of the Seminary of San José, in Faro, and responsible for the pre-seminar.

The priest will work with Father Carlos de Aquino, who has also been pastor of those parishes since August 2015, and with Father Henrique Varela, who has been pastor of São Clemente since January 1988 and of São Sebastião since 1989. The inauguration of this cleric will be on August 28 (Sunday), at 18 pm, at the Sanctuary of N. Sra. da Piedade/Mãe Soberana.

The bishop of the Algarve also appointed Father Francisco Ferreira de Campos, priest of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits), as pastor in solidum of the parishes of Mexilhoeira Grande and Nossa Senhora do Amparo in Portimão. The swearing-in ceremony will take place on September 25 (Sunday), at the Church of Nossa Senhora do Amparo, at 10:00 am.

For the parishes of Altura, Azinhal, Cacela, Castro Marim, Monte Gordo, treat and Vila Real de Santo António was appointed as pastor in solidum Father José Armando Vieira da Silva, from the Congregation of the Priests of the Heart of Jesus (Dehonians).

The priest, who comes to strengthen the community of Dehonian priests in the Algarve, will work with Father Agostinho Pinto, who has been there since September 2013, together with Fathers Adelino Ferreira and Nuno da Rocha, all from the same congregation. Father Agostinho Pinto has been parish priest of Cacela since 2010 and parish vicar of Azinhal, Castro Marim, Monte Gordo and Vila Real de Santo António. He will take office on September 17th (Saturday), at 19 pm, in VRSA.

For the parishes of São Brás de Alportel and Santa Catarina da Fonte do Bispo was appointed as pastor in solidum Father Duarte Manuel da Silva Costa, from the Congregation of Espírito Santo (Spiritians), who replaces Father Paulinus Anyabuoke, who had been in the Algarve since October 2011.
