The guarantee was given this Wednesday by the Secretary of State for Infrastructure Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins, in Faro, at the opening of the roundabout connecting the North bypass to the N2.

The Secretary of State assured that, "during this month of June, we are finalizing all the works on the EN125, to ensure that, from 1st July, everything is smooth and clear along the EN125."

Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins explained that «we have already detected the critical points for the completion of interventions» and «during the month of June, we will be monitoring the completion of some sections that are still to be completed daily».

The official says that “the Government is very committed to ensuring that this is guaranteed: that, from July 1st, until the end of August, there will be no works and no movement of works [on the EN125], to give to tourists and those who come to the Algarve stability and tranquility for your circulation».

In this last month of works before the high season, there will be «signaling and painting of the pavement. We will ensure, during this month, that this is done, as soon as possible».

After the summer, «the works will resume. We are seeing how we are going to carry out this rescheduling of the works, which will be negotiated with the concessionaire. In other words, there is no scheduled date for the end of the EN125 reconversion works.

However, Guilherme d'Oliveira Martins says that there is an «effort by the Government to pay special attention to the EN125, to the works, and to the conditions of alternative to the A22. We know that the A22 is tolled and, in that sense, there will be special care».

The stop of works on the EN125 it meets the wishes of the Algarve hoteliers who have officially asked the government for its suspension.

The main areas under construction along the EN125 are currently located in the Boliqueime (with the construction of two new roundabouts and sidewalks) and Lagoa (new roundabout and sidewalks), but there are other places, such as Patã, also target of interventions.
